Lorna's Triangle is of Regional landscape significance as an area of remnant open forest woodland and wet heath formations. Much of the area is very wet during winter months and as a consequence, has remained near natural within an urbanised fringe suburban development.
The area is significant:
for its scientific value as a remnant heathland,
for its association with the Flinders Naval Depot and the real-estate boom of 1913-1920, and
for its association with Lorna Bennetts OAM, conservationist and Shire Councillor 1970-1987.
LOCATION:
Some 270 ha (670 acres) of landscape recorded in 1975 was bounded by Wooleys Road to the north, Stony Point Road on the east, Disney Street to the south, and South Beach Road on the west. The area straddled the Frankston - Stony Point railway at Bittern.
Subsequent redevelopment and land clearance has reduced the area of significance to 28 ha (69 acres) known as Lorna's Triangle - Natural Bushland Reserve, at the north east corner of Disney and South Beach Road.
