Statement of Significance

1. Seascape which can now be glimpsed from Rosebud Flinders Road

2. Potential for scenic pedestrian walkway which could extend along the cliff tops from Cape Schanck to Flinders.

Abrupt cliffs of columnar basalt with heights of 250 feet to 50 feet. Vegetation is sparse except:

(a) at Flinders where basalt is overlain with limestone, and

(b) where hillside slip has resulted in gentler slopes and better soil formation. With the exception of a few scattered trees, all natural vegetation has been cleared from cliff tops and replaced with pasture.

A small bluestone quarry is operating near the mouth of Yallerong Creek. Adjacent zeolites should be protected as they are rapidly being removed by indiscriminate gem stone collectors.

Sea birds are transitory.

Landscape values are high, both in regard to close view cliff landscape, and long view panoramic seascapes.
