A very rich mining area. Amongst the notable claims - Theodore Ballerstedt's open cut; George lansells' '180'; Victoria Quartz Mine (deepest in the world for many years); Rae's Open Cut; Wittscheibe's 'Jeweller's Shop'; Luffman & Sterry and Roberts & Son.
The Hill yielded a profit of 600,000 pounds between 1854 - 60.
