This powerhouse/workshop (which dates from 1923) and machinery is a good example of a once common building use. The building housed generators which once supplied this small country town and the railway system with power, as well as power for major and minor repairs to all kinds of machinery, including repairs to both Victorian and South Australian locomotives and rolling stock. This powerhouse/workshop is only one of two which has survived in the Mallee district.
