Statement of Significance

This red brick Court House was designed by J.B. Cohen an architect in the Public Works Department and built by N. Falconer in 1907/8. The plan and architectural style is similar to the Heidelberg Court House which was designed in 1899 by the same architect. The high octagonal Court Room is located centrally with clerestorey windows and a steeply pitched hipped slate roof crowned with two unusual finials. The Court Room is surrounded with ancillary offices, the general massing and the distinctive roof form part of this significant example of Edwardian architecture.
