Wareen, built in 1894 for Andrew Harper, is historically significant at a state level.
Historically, Wareen is significant for its associations with the Rev Dr Professor Andrew Harper, who had an international reputation as a biblical scholar, and was an important figure in the Presbyterian Church in Australia. Also with Mrs Beatrice Manifold, a member of a prominent Western District family of graziers and cattle-breeders. It is one of the earliest private holiday homes in Lorne, built in this prestigious residential area for wealthy Western District graziers, businessmen and other prominent families. It forms an integral part of an important precinct of fine seaside holiday houses on large allotments, and is the earliest building of that group.
