Statement of Significance

This graceful red brick three storey butter factory built in 1901, which comprises of three distinct sections plus an attached manager's residence, is one of the most imposing butter factories in the state. Technologically advanced it was one of the most highly regarded factories in the southern hemisphere and was one of the first to use the Babcock testing fat testing technique which later bacame standard in all butter factories. Its graceful chimney and site on a grand sweeping corner attest to the community's desire to demonstrate their regard for the importance of the industry.
