Statement of Significance

Built in 1857 with David Burston the first headmaster and originally known as Tower Hill Lake State School No. 618, this substantial single storey building became the Koroit State School 618 in 1873. When a new and larger State School was built in 1878, the building had a variety of occupants including the police and Koroit Town Council. Built of local sandstone on a bluestone base, the unusual "H" shaped plan included the teacher's residence in the central portion.
