Statement of Significance

These cottages were part of the original Stag Hotel premises and they were probably built at the same time as the hotel in 1847. They were leased from 1853-57 to the Bank of Australasia as the Bank's first office in Belfast. No 18 was leased to the Belfast District Roads Board from 1858-63 and to the Shire from 1863-77. No 20 was leased to the municipality of Belfast from 1858-63 and to the Borough of Belfast from 1863-82. Both buildings were used as municipal offices.
These single storey cottages have a common cornice and detailing. There are symmetrically arranged entrances with windows to either side. The stucco facades are detailed in smooth rusticated masonry and there are distinctive window heads and quoins to either end of the facade. The building has a parapet and twelve pane sashes survive to some of the windows. Part of Port Fairy Historic Area.
Classified 28/05/1981.
2010 Note: Duplex residence as part of Seacombe House accommodation.
