Statement of Significance

A church hall built in 1912 in memory of Niel Walter Black, second generation member of the prominent pastoral family, to the design of Sydney Smith of the firm of Sydney Smith & Ogg. The particular charm of the overall form derives form the combination of a polygonal end with a gently pitched and bellcast profile roof with generous eaves.Interest focuses on the rectangular side entrance porch with banked slit openings, short sweeping balustrades to the flanking flights of steps and the oxidised copper memorial plaque with an inscription enlivened by a spray of eucalyptus leaves and blossom.
