Belanie is a two storey house believed to have been built in 1863 for Henry Wells. Symmetrically arranged, the house has a central doorway with round-headed toplight and French doors to either side, the upper storey and side facades. Until recently the house had an elaborately decorated, timber verandah, which has now been replaced by a single storey verandah.
Belnie is of note in the context of the surrounding district and architecturally as a representative example of a reasonably substantial Colonial style residence, exemplified by the use of French doors instead of windows.
Belnie was of note for its elaborate timber verandah, now lost. This was one of the most elaborate and important verandahs in Victoria before its recent demolition.
Belnie is reasonably intact with the exception of the verandah, which itself may not have been the original.
The present verandah is reasonably sympathetic, but is of no comparison with its predecessor. Condition is apparently good.
