Statement of Significance

Goods Shed Statement of Significance: A standard "Light Lines" three door timber framed weatherboard clad goods shed with metal bow string truss roof and platform in situ. A portable goods office is attached at the north. The railway to Numurkah was opened in 1881 and the goods shed, built by Pritchard and Blackwood, completed in the same year. The style of the goods shed was first used in the constructions of the North-eastern railway to Wodonga in 1873 where the few remaining examples are corrugated iron clad. The majority of examples have now been demolished and Numurkah remains as the largest of its type. It compares with Kilmore East, Broadford, Drouin, Rosedale and Winchelsea (which has been re-located).

Footbridge Statement of Significance: The Numurkah footbridge was built during the late 1880s and compares with other surviving structures of similar design at Stawell Street, Ballarat, and Dover and Eglinton Streets, Moonee Ponds. It is of all metal construction with decorative sheet metal brackets and together with other metal footbridges, contrasts with the contemporary and later timber footbridges remaining in greater numbers today.
