Statement of Significance

A particularly fine triple-gabled hall church designed by the English architect Charles Hansom and executed by local architects - the nave and aisles of 1857 by George & Schneider, supervised by James Fleury, the chancel of 1871 by William Wardell, supervised by J B Denny. The facade incorporates carved gargoyles; the interior space is rendered impressive by the breadth and simplicity of the arcading leading into the wide aisles; and the east end is rendered splendid by gilded roof decoration and a magnificent reredos designed by Wardell.
