Statement of Significance

Inverugie, reputedly built in 1858 for a Dr Geary, is of regional significance for:
the display of early stonemason's skill in the construction of the rubble and dressed bluestone walling of the 1858 section and the unusual use of this material in a Bungalow style of the 1920s wing;
its association with the town's locally prominent surgeon and cricket team captain, Dr Henry Geary, and the local architect and Town Surveyor, Gabriel Fleck, providing a reflection of the aspirations of professional life in one of the colony's most important inland towns of the 1850s;
and its important role in the Baynton Street group of the historic townscape of Kyneton.
It demonstrates a house and stables complex of the 1850s.
