'Hollydale' was built in 1898 by J.G. King for his brother-in-law, John W. Grubb. Grubb was a butcher who had arrived in Victoria from England in 1870 and had set up residence in Williamstown. The timber for the house came from the old home at Williamstown and was delivered by bullock wagon. The house was surrounded by extensive gardens, which included a conservatory and a lake. The latter originallycovered 2-3 acres and had a small island in it and rowing boats. The property was sold by Mr. Grubb in 1916 and later passed into the hands of the McGauran family. The McGaurans established a pastoral company and were notable members of the community with later members of the family including 2 members of State and Federal Parliament. The McGauran family also later owned Nambrock Homestead. Classified; 13/02/1964 Demolished: after 1993
