Erected c 1870 by W. Roper. The two storey brick structure has an intact shopfront with arched display windows flanking a central double door entrance. Slim pilasters separate the doors and windows and articulate the ends of the shopfront. There are extensive outbuildings to the rear.
This is a notable, intact example of nineteenth century provincial shop design and was once the principle commercial establishment in the town. The shopfront is particularly significant with its intact display windows, doors and pilasters. The substantial main structure in distinctive local bricks is notable. The intact first floor windows are interesting.
The verandah has been reconstructed in a 'modern' idiom. The nineteenth century designhas been maintained. The street facade has been painted.
