Statement of Significance

A single-manual chamber organ of six stops built about 1870 by George Fincham for an unidentified location and acquired by the East St Kilda Congregational Church in 1885. The instrument, which resembles a similar organ by Fincham in the Burnley Congreational Church, has an elegant grained timber case with a prominent cornice, diapered facade pipes and fretwork panels. The original console, with script-engraved drawknobs, mechanism and tonal scheme survive intact apart from the replacement of a Trumpet by a Flute in 1940. The organ was sold into private ownership c.2002.
