Statement of Significance

A rudimentary but very well preserved wooden chapel of 1865-7, with picturesque fretted bargeboards, and only the roof pitch and the pointed entrance doorway to suggest the Gothic style. The building is of interest as an example of a combined church and school, having fulfilled both functions until 1889, and for its associations with John Egan, pioneer pastoralist and gold discoverer of the area, who donated the site, and whose Celtic cross memorial adjoins the chapel and is included The chapel is further enhanced by its association with the unusually intact cemetery (not included).
