Statement of Significance

National Trust Classified areas defined as follows:
1. The main or Vahland building as an exterior only, taking into account the defacement made as a consequence of linking the rear facade to other buildings and the erection of a verandah along one side.
2. The gate-house or lodge as an exterior only.
3. The four hitching posts in front of the main building.
4. The iron fencing and kerbing along Barnard Street, noting the removal of the entrance gates and pillars.
5. Such portion of the garden as necessary to relate the Vahland building to the Lodge and Barnard Street fencing. This curtilage to be, in effect, that area of garden between the Vahland building and the fencing with width the same as that of the Vahland building as a minimum.
