Statement of Significance

James and Thomas Austin arrived in Victoria in 1835. James took up the Avavlon property while Thomas settled at Barwon Park, Winchesea and the properties were run in partnership for a short time. The property remained in the Austin family until 1961 when it was given to the Brotherhood of St. Laurence. It later became part of Geelong Grammar.ThebluestoneHomestead was built c.1878 for the Austin family, replacing an earlier building which had been destroyed by fire.
