Statement of Significance

The place was originally built for William Carmichael and known as "Harton Hills". The original three rooms according to "Old Melbourne Memories" by Rolf Boldrewoodwere built around 1842. It was renamed "Ripponhurst" by Sargood in the 1890's. The name reverted back to 'Harton Hills' with the next owners Moodie & Ellis.
