Statement of Significance

This small rectangular timber cheese factory built in 1894 was one of many small proprietary cheese companies in the state. Built during a period of expansion in the dairy industry, and only in operation for 16 years, the simple lines of the building and the use of strategic planting to protect and delineate the space of the site demonstrates the shareholders' determination to restrict their operation to a level they could easily manage. The building is a rare surviving example from that period.
