Statement of Significance

This monument is a significant historical icon raised by local patriotic fervour at the time of Federation. It is also a significant example of the work of James White, a successful and innovative sculptor during that period. The monument is an important component in the collection of public monuments and statuary erected over the period of a century in the Sturt Street Gardens, Ballarat.
