The former Bridge Hotel was erected in 1858 for Henry Hopwood who located his new establishment close to the site of his punt and pontoon bridge. Additions were made in 1868. The brick structure has a two storey central section with a two storey timber verandah. This is flanked on both sides by single storey wings with canted bay ends and verandahs.

The building has been extensively restored and now serves as a restaurant.

This is a fine example of an early hotel. It is important for its association with Henry Hopwood, one of Echuca's pioneers, and with the early development of the town. The central section with the two storey verandah is typical of provincial hotel architecture. The canted bay side wings and the freestanding nature of the building are unusual and notable features. The hotel is an outstanding element of the river port precinct and is a distinctive feature of this important historic city.

The hotel has recently been restored.
