Statement of Significance

This brick and timber milk building, constructed in 1925 and sited on the Moe River, is an unusual and well preserved example of a large Gippsland milk depot, the only one extant in Gippsland. The building is notable for the lack of roof ridge ventilation and for the existence of four gabled roof set below a single long cross gable. The building is the only Gippsland commercial dairy building to be set into a hillside in order to use the natural fall of the land for cooling and for ease of access. It is significant for its association with a number of prominent local families in the dairying industry and as the only remaining survivor of several factories in the immediate vicinity.
