The house formerly known as 103 Wellington Street Collingwood was originally erected at 130 Islington Street in the same suburb, probably in the early 1880s following on an 1870s subdivision. It comprised two rooms and skillion kitchen, now replaced, with exterior walls and roof of corrugated galvanised iron and simple front verandah and ornamental barge boards. The internal lining boards are still largely intact. File note: Moved to Wellington Street 1978, then to current location in 1994 aftergoing into council storage 1985.
In October, 1937, it was cited and illustrated in the Housing Investigation and Slum Abolition Board report as The Board was amazed to discover one house built on an allotment of land with a frontage of 8 feet 5 inches. The Report went on to say that scores of houses are built on frontages of 12 feet. The house was still occupied until 1977.
Although it has lost its iron to one wall which is replacedby weatherboards and the chimney is gone, it is still remarkably intact. It is interesting for its survival as an extreme example of a small humble town dwelling.
