A timber cottage of particular charm which dates from Richmond's building boom of the gold rush period of 1853-4 and stands on the spindly timber stumps which characterised the jerry building of that time: although one side of the facade had been subsequently extended forwards this was apparently done at an early date and the elegant concave-roofed verandah and trellised valence were well matched. Other features of technical interest include the half-round spouting of the east window bay, early brass window furniture, and the shiplap or chamferboard cladding which suggests that the original building was an imported one. The later brick additions are included.
