The relief sculpture F.E Virtue Memorial 1963 by the Hungarian/Australian sculptor Andor Meszaros is of Local significance for historical and aesthetic reason.
Historically, this commemorative wall sculpture is important as an acknowledgment of the contribution of Emily Virtue to the school life of Presbyterian Ladies' College. Miss Virtue held a number of leadership positions within the school and served as Co-Vice-Principal from 1917-18 then Vice-Principal from 1919-33. Presenting an unusual interpretation of the subject, Meszaros captures the essence of the adult carer in the childlike spirit.
Aesthetically, the piece is significant as a representative example of the sculptor's body of work produced in 1960's when his individual style of "figurative symbolism" took expression in a number of medium-to large-scale reliefs. It is widely accepted that allegorical interpretations of his internationally recognised medallions, though without the strong design concerns of the circular frame. The universal treatment of the subject does however border on sentimentiality. Unfortunately, due to building extensions, the work has been relocated from its original position and is now poorly sited high on an adjacent quadrangle wall.
