Statement of Significance

One of Melbourne's oldest institutional buildings, surviving substantially in its original form as designed by George & Schneider and built in 1855-6 and 1858, though with numerous alterations including an upper storey on part of the original east or chapel wing and a more modern extension of this wing to the east which, together with other alterations and additions of the twentieth century, is excluded.
