One of the first significant applications in Australia of de Stijl architectural principles, built in 1934-5 and with sympathetic later additions including a complete storey to the north wing. The competition-winning design by Norman H Seabrook also strongly reflected the work of the Dutch architect W M Dudok, especially his Hilversum Town Hall (c.1927-31). The school pre-dated other Dukok-inspired Australian work and is comparable with works in Brition and France. The Girls High School was financed by philanthropist Sir MacPherson Robertson as a Centenary project to the extent of 40,000 pounds.
