Statement of Significance

An unusual surviving example of a suburban shopping arcade, which illustrates at once the late nineteenth century development of retailing nodes around railway stations and the post-Great War trend towards lock-up shops.
The upper facade to High Street is in an interesting, though less than masterly variation of the red brick Queen Anne Style.
