Statement of Significance

Built in 1866/67 in the Italianate style possibly by the architect Joseph Reed. It is architecturally interesting for forming a link between the restrained style of the earlier Italiante residences and the extravagant boom-style mansions of the 1880's.
The house was built for Robert Bruce Ronald, joint Victorian manager of the Australian Mercantile Land and Finance Co. R.B. Ronald also donated large funds for the building of the Presbyterian Church in Toorak Roadand was the owner of several pastoral stations in Western Victoria, New South Wales and cattle stations and sugar plantations and mills in Queensland.
