Statement of Significance

A natural rock formation crossing of the Maribyrnong River, augmented by a man-made rock parapet and paving. First noted on February 3rd 1803 by James Flemming, the ford was for many years the first suitable crossing place for carts or cattle going from Melbourne to Geelong or Williamstown.
