Statement of Significance

Built for Holeproof Hoisery Ltd. in 1940-1 and designed by the prominent architects, Gawler & Drummond, this complex is architecturally of significance for its uncommonly high integrity for an industrial building. It is also highly significant as a successful design after the European Modern manner being superior to other contemporary examples because of its high integrity and the design skill shown in its street elevation: of state significance.
It is of significance historically, as one of a small group of privately owned industrial complexes built during World War Two which are of special interest as contributers of some formerly imported commodity cut off by the war, and also as one of the few industrial complexes in Camberwell where industrial development was discouraged during this century.
