Statement of Significance

A free composition in the Greek Doric style and once considered to be "the most beautiful work of its kind in Australia" (Argus 23.6.1933). An important early work (1897) of the distinguished architect Harold Desbrowe Annear. Of particular interest is the variety of fine coloured stones and the translucent glass canopy over the white marble statuary.
