Statement of Significance

A noteworthy example of an early single storey brick residence built about 1857 for William Stokes. There were considerable alterations and additions in the 1890's but the names of any architect or builders are not known.
The bluestone entrance steps rising directly from the pavement boundary to the entrance door are unusual. The assymetrical design includes roof gables with carved timber trefoil design bargeboards and other gothic influenced detailing to the verandah.
