A prominently sited domed cruciform church of French character, designed by A A Fritsch and built between 1913 and 1918 of Waurn Ponds freestone. The massive exterior is dominated by the crossing dome, sheathed in copper, surmounted by a cupola and gilt statue of Our Lady of Victories. The spacious interior focusses upon a large circular apse, with coffered ceiling, containing an elaborate classical altar piece with flanking columns and entabature.
The lavish fitting includes a complete cycle of Hardman stained glass, mosaics, statuary, pulpit carved by Robert Prenzel, and large divided organ by Magahy of Cork. Fritsch's most important church design and a major example of a twentieth century Australian church in the Romanesque style.
