'Stanton' was built for Henry Baker, brother-in-law and neighbour of Architect Charles Webb, the undoubted designer of this house. Part at least dates before 1859. The axially planned house features Webb's characteristic heavy quoins and cast iron verandah. Construction is a stuccoed brickwork with a slate roof and other features are the elaborate eaves brackets and chimney cappings (possibly later)
It is a representative example of an Italianate villa house, notable for its complimentary role to nearby 'Chilton' and its associations with the Webb brothers and their early subdivisions in this area, on the
site of Henry Dandy's manor house.
The house is also notable for its detailing.
It has been variously altered, but is largely intact and in good condition.
