Believed built c.1860 and subject to sucessive alterations. Here Richard Hale Budd conducted his Rooding Educational Institute for Ladies on the principles of English Public Schools for boys. A response to trends to allow women to enter professions and universities, the school produced a number of distinguished scholars and journalists.
