The three-storey town house was erected in 1873 by Beardall and Glencross for Thomas Anthony. Anthony resided here for some time and later leased the premises to Rev. Dr. L D Bevan, a prominent minister at the Collins Street Independent Church. The street facade is rendered and the two lower stories are verandahed. The side facade of face brickwork and bluestone faces onto a laneway.
This is a notable example of terrace house architecture and is directly comparable to Nos. 406 and 408 Albert Street as both have an almost identical facade composition and detail. In both cases the detailing of the verandah with the attached half columns, stylized piers, providing imposts for the brackets, and fine balustrade panels is particularly distinctive. The intact side elevation, palisade fence and fine timberwork to both the internal staircases are other fine features.
