BUTLER STUDY, 2001 - For its association with the period of gold-mining in the district in the 1890s - As a rare example of a wattle-and-daub construction - For its long association with the Warrandyte artistic community, especially Clara Southern, Potter's Cottage and with James Wigley.
The fabric associated with the c1880s wattle and daub miner's cottage known as Sloan's cottage (later called Moonlight cottage).
The wattle and daub cottage is historically, socially and technically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
The cottage is historically and technically significant for its association with the period of gold mining in the district and as a rare example of wattle and daub construction (Criteria A, B & F). The cottage is socially significant for its long association with the Warrandyte artistic community, especially Potter's Cottage and the artists Clara Southern and James Wigley (Criteria G & H).
