The Tooradin Estate complex, comprising the house constructed c.1898 and associated former stables, at 300 Lynes Road, Tooradin.
How is it significant?
The Tooradin Estate farm complex is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant as a now rare surviving example of a nineteenth century farm complex in the former Cranbourne Shire and has links, by its siting, to the early phase of pastoralism in Gippsland. (AHC criteria A4 and D2)
Aesthetically, the house is significant as a fine example of Victorian Italianate architecture. Internally, it has distinctive elements such as the plaster ceiling details, plan form, joinery and passages archway and is notable within the West Gippsland region. The setting is enhanced by the former stables, which is indicative of the simple early farm structures used in the area. (AHC criterion E1)
