Statement of Significance
What is significant?
Glenfalloch, comprising the house constructed c.1935 and associated mature garden, at 88-92 Brisbane Street, Berwick.
How is it significant?
'Glenfalloch' is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant for its association with Evan C. Henry (owner until his death in January 1980), a prominent district farmer and member of an important pioneering family. Henry won many prizes for his Southdown stud. Married to a Wilson daughter, Henry operated from the Quarry Hills property in the 1930s, winning first prize in 1937 in the Commonwealth Meat Board's All Australian Export Competition. He was twice President and in 1954 made a Life Member (a rare distinction) of the Berwick and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
Aesthetically, it is significant as an exceptionally fine example of a large 1930s brick residence. Its design appears as a series of hipped pavilions with the effect enhanced by the two porticos and entrance porch, and it setting is enhanced by the associated mature garden, which contains many fine exotic trees.
