What is significant?

Dhuringa, comprising the house constructed c.1925, earlier stables and pair of Bhutan Cypresses, at 59 Peel Street, Berwick.


How is it significant?

'Dhuringa' is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Casey.


Why is it significant?

Historically, it is significant for its associations with the first owner, Mrs Fanny Hume Hutchinson who was the grand daughter of Hamilton Hume and actively involved in the local community. (AHC criteria A4, D2 and H1)

Aesthetically, the house is significant as an excellent example of an Arts and Crafts bungalow, featuring superb interior carpentry detailing, intact external form and set within a complementary garden landscape. (AHC criteria E1)
