The quarry opposite 5 to 9 Imaroo Street, at the end of Argyle Street, Fawkner is of local historic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Historically, it is significant for its ability to demonstrate the bluestone quarrying activity which was carried out extensively around inner city Melbourne when the Colony was being established, and more specifically along Merri Creek during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. It demonstrates an activity and land-use that has largely disappeared as a result of changes in building practise and materials. (AHC Criterion B.2)
