How is it significant?
The house and mature cupressus sempervirens at 25 Station Street, Coburg
is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance, as a house built on land developed by
Melbourne City Councillor John Pigdon in direct reponse to the opening
of the Coburg Railway in 1882. (AHC Criterion A.4)
Of aesthetic significance, as a late example of a simple mid- Victorian
style house with a high-piched gothic gable end, which differed from the
more elaborate Boom style Italianate houses which were being erected
from the mid-1880s. (AHC Criterion E.1)
