'Capragh', comprising the house constructed c.1889, at 3 Deans Street, Coburg.
How is it significant?
'Capragh' is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance, as a representative example of a house constructed during the first phase of suburban development in Coburg during the land boom just prior to the 1890s depression. The occupation of the house by people employed at nearby Pentridge Prison is also of interest. (AHC Criteria A.4 & D.2)
Of aesthetic significance as a representative example of a Victorian Italianate villa. It is part of a group of late nineteenth and early twentieth century residences that make an important contribution to the character and amenity of Deans Street. (RNE criterion E.1)
