Why is it significant?
Of historical significance, as one of
only two survivingCloserSettlement scheme houses in Allard Street, a
part of the PhoenixEstate- the last stage of the Brunswick Closer
Settlement scheme estates-designed as a response to the impacts of the
1890s depression onpoorerurban dwellers. The development of the
Phoenix Estate was asignificantin the transformation of south-west
Brunswick into a distinctlocalcommunity with its own post office,
