How is it significant?
The Allan Street precinct is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance, as a representative example of a residential precinct that illustrates the arrested economic activity which resulted in Brunswick from the depression of the 1890s, and the subsequent surge in development as economic conditions gradually improved throughout the early 1900s. This precinct, together with adjacent Bruce and Warburton Streets, was formed as a result of subdivision in 1888, and haltingly developed from around 1895 for the next twenty years. Of aesthetic significance as a representative example of an early twentieth century residential precinct with a moderate degree of homogeneity. (AHC Criterion E.1)
