What is significant?
How is it significant?
Why is it significant? The Moreland Station Precinct is of local architectural significance
as a representative example of the pattern of subdivision and building
which occurred in subdivisions stimulated by the arrival of the
railway in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Notable architectural
styles include detached 19th century villas and cottages,
predominately of timber construction. The precinct displays a moderate
level of integrity, and comprises a representative range of
predominately Victorian, Edwardian and some Inter-War housing,
generally modest in scale. Jessie Street comprises a combination of
these styles, including a small number of 19th Century brick terrace
pairs.
Non-Contributory properties include:
The Moreland Station Precinct,
comprising the railway station, footbridge, signal box, and houses at
1-5 Audley Street, 1-17 and 2-22 Jessie Street, 1A-1C Hall Street,
208-240 and 241-265 Moreland Road, 1-47 and 4-24 Station Street, and
the Gandolfo Gardens.
The Moreland Station Precinct is of local historical and
architectural significance to the City of Moreland.
The Moreland Station Precinct is of local historical significance
for its capacity to demonstrate, through the conjunction of the
railway elements and the surrounding housing on small allotments, the
role of the railways in encouraging speculative development in
Melbourne's northern suburbs.
